JD Horsemanship

Updated: Jun 24, 2020

Based on the Scottish Boarders, JD Horsemanship came on the Show during the Covid19 crisis to bring us all some handy groundwork hints and tips, and offer their help over social media if anyone was experiencing any problems.

What is JD HORSEMANSHIP??

...We are a Scottish Borders based horse (and human!) training yard which specialises in starting horses under saddle, trailer loading and training/helping horses and their owners with 'issues'.  Please browse this site to see who we are and what we do. There are plenty of photographs to see and testimonials to read. Get in touch if you think we will suit you and your horse. Duncan is always happy to chat about himself and the methods he uses and we welcome people to visit us and see first hand what we do here.

  • Here we start horses of any size, background and breeding. We have started Clydesdale and Shetland ponies under saddle, many thoroughbreds, Arabs, Cobs and more. Some never touched, some with a troubled past and some well reared and handled

  • Typically a horse will stay with us for 6 weeks during the backing process but this is variable depending on the horse and the stage of training in which it arrives.

  • We also offer lessons, clinics and are available for demonstrations, contact us to find out more.

Testimonials...

JD horsemanship are brilliant, their door is always open and Duncan and Jasmine are full of knowledge. Rebus was there a few weeks and came on leaps and bounds, Duncan has all the patience in the world and is fair but firm with the horses in training.

Sarah Oliver, Newcastleton

Very pleased with the end result , Joe was by no means easy and I know needed a lot of work and expertise. I would highly recommend JD Horsemanship

Sheila Dickson, Scottish Borders

Duncan backed and started my youngster towards the end of last year and he has done a wonderful job. I cannot recommend him highly enough to anyone who wants a fantastic start to their horse's ridden life. Over the winter have managed to hack Tiger out and about over open countryside without any issues, crosses water with no fuss and doesn't bother spooking at things my other two horses are snorting at!

Helen MacNeil, West Lothian

Big thanks to all at JD horsemanship. Maisie has been as good as gold to hack out at home and is now going to enjoy a well deserved rest. Would recommend JD Horsemanship to anyone!
